Submission
Guidelines
Abstracts for oral and poster presentations should be prepared according
to the guidelines and deadlines described below AND must be submitted
using the online Oral and Poster Submission form.

Abstract Submission Deadline: June 15th, 2008.
Notification of Selection Decision: August 1st 2008.
2. Oral and Poster
Submittal Form
• Abstract
Title: The title not to exceed 100 characters including spaces
and must be in upper and lower case.
Example: Diabetes Mellitus.
• Category: Authors must select the primary
category (i.e. the field of application that corresponds to the general
area of the submitted research abstract). The chosen category will
determine the panel of reviewers to which the abstract will be selected.
However, the Abstract Subcommittee reserves the right to reassign
the abstract to a different category without notifying the author.
• Keywords: Authors are required to select
up to 3 keywords as appropriate for the abstract. Key words must be
in upper and lower case. Example: Diabetes Mellitus.
• Presentation Preference: The author may indicate
the preference for the presentation method (oral or poster). Although
the Abstract Subcommittee will consider the author preference, it
can not guarantee the selection and reserves the right for the final
decision.
• Unapproved use of commercial product: Must
be clearly identified and presenting author is required to disclose
this at the time of the presentation.
• Authors:
o Presenting Author: : Should be listed first. Provide full name,
degree(s), institutional affiliation, and complete contact information.
o Authors: List all authors with full names and degree(s). Author
Disclosure will be required at the time of presentation.
• Abstract Body:
o The abstract text not to exceed 300 words.
o Simple tables and graphs may be included only if they fit within
the box (no artwork and/or pictures).
o The abstract must be as informative as possible. It MUST be structured
to include the following headings (in capital and lower case):
Objective- purpose of the study and research hypothesis must be clearly
stated.
Methods- The study design, study population, outcome variables, analytical
techniques, frequency and collection procedures, and statistical methods
should be briefly described.
Results- The study findings to support the research hypothesis must
be stated. Numerical presentation of the results with statistical
significance, standard deviations, standard errors of the mean, or
ranges should be .included as appropriate.
Conclusions- Should briefly highlight the impact of the research and
the utility of the data. Information not supported by data in the
result section should not be included.
o Abstracts should be well written and are required the standard format
described.
o The following specifications are to be followed:
You may paste text from most word processing software packages.
Spell out symbols such as "less than" or "greater than."
Use a hard return only to end a paragraph or for title, headings,
or separate items in a list.
Use the letter O (oh), the number 0 (zero), the letter l (el) and
the number 1 (one) correctly.
Use only one space after colons or periods.
Use fonts 10 or 12.
• Posters
o Abstract posters must include a short description of the work with
accompanying graphs and tables. The overall poster board dimensions
are 4 feet high by 8 feet wide, and the available image area is 46
½ “ x 94 ½ “. The title and authors’
names should be clearly labeled, and a copy of the abstract should
be posted. Graphics should be prepared in advance and be large enough
to be viewed from a distance of at least 3 feet.
Please note upon acceptance of an abstract, it is requested that an E&D Journal version of that abstract be provided in addition to the one submitted to the conference in order for it to be featured in the journal. For guideline requirements please visit http://www.ishib.org/ED_subman.asp
