Cancer: Prevention and Treatment in the Arab American Community and the Arab World Abroad
Saturday, November 8th, 2008
Cultural values play an important role in health seeking behaviors of the Arab and Arab American population specifically in the area of cancer education and screening. Notions such as modesty, human body, and cultural influence are held in high regards among both genders. This workshop will provide the specific Arab and Arab American experience in reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer.
Objectives:
- To highlight the most prevalent cancer data among the Arab and Arab American community
- To enhance the understanding of community-based cancer screening experiences
- To improve the understanding of the specific cancer needs and cultural factors that influence the practice of a cancer-free lifestyle in the Arab American community
